Magnolia User Account Request

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Magnolia will be undergoing planned maintenance and will be unavailable from December 15th through December 19th, 2025. Users will be unable to work on new applications, amendments, or submit manuscripts for review during this time. McMaster University is closed from December 25th, 2025, through January 2nd, 2026. For these reasons, and due to staff holidays, no new user accounts will be available from December 13th, 2025, to January 5th, 2026. The next data access application submission deadline is Wednesday, January 14, 2026 (5 p.m. Eastern). Please plan accordingly.

Are you a trainee/student/postdoctoral fellow?*

For trainee applications, the request for a user account must be made by the supervisor on behalf of the trainee. The supervisor remains the primary applicant and is responsible for the content of the application. Visit the Trainee section for more information about data access for trainees.

  • Public sector researcher with eligible appointment (continuing or term appointment), authorized to sign a Data Sharing Agreement
  • At an eligible institution that is able to uphold the conditions of the data sharing agreement, administer grant funds, and provide Research Ethics Board Approval (or have access to an Independent Research Ethics Board)

If you are a researcher with a private commercial entity, you are able to be part of a research team that is led by a public sector researcher to answer the research questions you may have, and for which the team requires CLSA data. Please refer to our Data and Sample Access Policy and Guiding Principles document and the FAQ section on our website for more information.
