Dr. Parminder Raina, lead principal investigator of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, has been appointed to a Council of Canadian Academies’ expert panel on the Transportation Needs of an Aging Population.

Under the guidance of its Scientific Advisory Committee, the Council of Canadian Academies has assembled a multidisciplinary, multi-sectoral expert panel to answer the question: How can technology and innovation help the Canadian transportation system (under the legislative authority of Parliament) adapt to the needs of an aging population?

Dr. Raina is a professor at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster University. He has expertise in the epidemiology of aging, epidemiologic modeling, systematic review methodology, injury and knowledge transfer. He holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Geroscience and the Raymond and Margaret Labarge Chair in Research and Knowledge Application for Optimal Aging.

Dr. Neena Chappell, a professor emeritus at the University of Victoria, will chair the expert panel, which will assess the available evidence and deliver its final report by late 2017. Members of the panel include experts in gerontology, innovative technologies, engineering, and transportation operations and policy.

The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that began operation in 2005. The CCA undertakes independent, authoritative, evidence-based expert assessments that inform public policy development in Canada.
