Project Summary

Mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, are risk factors for the development of cardiometabolic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Recent research tells us that a common factor, called the internalizing factor, underlies these mental disorders. However, little is known about the association between the internalizing factor and cardiometabolic diseases. This study will test the association between the internalizing factor and cardiometabolic disease. We will also explore how the internalizing factor and cardiometabolic disease are measured. This work will contribute to our understanding of considerable risk factors for cardiometabolic disease. This work will also make theoretical contributions to the field by directly comparing different measurement approaches used in the literature.
