Project Summary
Kidney disease and heart disease are major health challenges in Canada, and often occur together in a condition known as cardiorenal multimorbidity. People facing social and economic difficulties are more likely to develop these diseases. Lack of physical activity can further worsen these conditions. However, we do not yet fully understand how common cardiorenal multimorbidity is in Canada or how these social and economic factors and physical activity interact to affect health.
Using the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, we aim to determine how many people are affected by cardiorenal multimorbidity, how factors like income, education, and loneliness contribute to the risk, and whether physical activity and fitness can influence these risks. By identifying the groups most at risk—based on age, gender, or location—this research will support efforts to reduce health inequalities in Canada.
