Project Summary

Pursuing an active lifestyle is vital for older adults’ quality of life and well-being. Central to this is mobility, defined as movement in all forms. This study examines mobility limitations among older adults through sociodemographic, psychosocial, health-related, social support, and social participation factors. We hypothesize a negative association between online social participation and mobility limitations, as reduced online engagement may signal lower awareness of local opportunities, limiting mobility. A negative association is also expected between social support and mobility limitations, since restricted mobility can hinder in-person interactions and weaken supportive networks. Identifying predictors and consequences of mobility limitations can inform scalable, low-cost interventions to reduce isolation and support aging in place, offering insights for policymakers and community organizations to develop preventive strategies fostering mobility and active participation.
