Project Summary
This study examines the impacts of prolonged exposure to environmental factors, specifically air and noise pollution, on cognitive, mental, and social health, as well as mortality rates among middle-aged and older Canadian adults. Using data from the CLSA, it hypothesizes that high levels of noise and air pollution increase the risks of cognitive, mental, and social health issues, with compounded effects when both pollutants are present. By analyzing socio-demographic and health-related factors over time, this research aims to understand how environmental exposures interact with individual characteristics, providing insights into the long-term health impacts of chronic exposure. This proposal aligns with the CIHR Operating Grant: Healthy Cities Research Initiative, aiming to leverage existing datasets to improve urban health and promote health equity, ultimately guiding public health strategies, urban planning, and interventions to enhance the well-being of vulnerable populations.
