CIHR invests $2.1M in CLSA research projects across the country

Thirty research teams from across Canada have received a combined total of $2.1 million in federal funding to support analyses of data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA).

The 2024 Catalyst Grant: Analysis of Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) Data was launched, under the leadership of the CIHR Institutes of Aging (IA) and Population and Public Health (IPPH), to raise awareness around the availability of CLSA data as new data releases are completed, as well as to catalyze and support the research of Canadian researchers using available CLSA data across all four health research themes.

Funding is provided in collaboration with partners, including the Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH)Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA)Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD), the Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging (BHCIA) Research Initiative, Canada’s Strategy for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) and the Quebec Network for Research on Aging (RQRV).

CIHR has awarded more than $10 million in funding to Canadian researchers since the first CIHR catalyst grant to analyze CLSA data was launched in 2016. The most recent awards mark the sixth competition.

The CLSA is a strategic initiative of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Funding for the CLSA platform has been provided by the Government of Canada through the CIHR and the Canada Foundation for Innovation. Additional support has been provided by several provinces, affiliated universities, and research institutions across Canada.
