Project Summary

Healthy aging is a significant concern worldwide. Understanding the factors that affect it is crucial for maintaining the quality of life of middle-aged and older adults as they age. In addition to individual-level factors (e.g., socio-demographics, access to healthcare, etc.), area-level factors (e.g., material or social deprivation, greenness, walkability, air quality, weather) are important in the study of healthy aging, and their effects can vary across individuals, geographic areas, and over time. Our goal is to examine how individual- and area-level factors contributing to better physical and mental health among middle-aged and older adults and to assess if the role of these factors differs across geographic areas. The study will also inform the development of effective interventions to promote healthy aging. To address these research questions, we will use various advanced statistical techniques for longitudinal data collected across different geographic areas.
