Project Summary

This study aims to describe older Canadian adults by type of dwelling. This portrait takes into account some socio-demographic characteristics as well as some indicators of general health status and autonomy. The population of seniors by type of dwelling is not well known, both in census data and survey data from Statistics Canada. Using the data collected through the CLSA main wave questionnaire, this study will shed new light on the elderly population by type of housing (house, apartment, seniors’ housing). In-depth analyses will then measure the net effect of different variables on the probability of living in one type of dwelling as opposed to another. These variables correspond to age, sex, marital status, education, income and other variables  describing one’s general health status and autonomy.
