Project Summary

Chronic health problems are common among older Canadians, negatively impacting their wellbeing and independence. Although healthcare services could assist these older Canadians, about 10% do not receive these services, representing unmet needs. Unmet healthcare needs have tremendous consequences on a person’s health and quality of life. With an aging population, the impact of unmet needs is expected to grow. We urgently need an efficient strategy to prevent unmet needs and ensure the right healthcare for older adults. Our team of patients, caregivers, and researchers will work together to create a new tool called a “population risk tool”. We will use established methods to develop and validate the tool to accurately predict unmet healthcare needs in aging Canadians. This tool aims to improve health services and reduce differences in healthcare access by informing population risk assessment and healthcare strategies to meet the needs of older Canadians.
