CLSA endorses the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)

The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) is a global initiative that champions transparent and context‑informed approaches to evaluating research by recognizing the broad range of scholarly contributions. It encourages institutions and researchers to highlight the value, influence, and societal impact of diverse research outputs beyond traditional publications and to adopt assessment practices that reflect the true scope of meaningful scientific contribution.

On March 19, 2026, the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) joined researchers and organizations around the world by signing the DORA declaration. This endorsement reflects our ongoing commitment to equitable, accessible research practices that recognize and elevate contributions with genuine and lasting impact.

As Canada’s largest and most comprehensive research platform on health and aging, the CLSA collects rich biological, medical, psychological, social, and economic data to support hundreds of research teams across Canada and internationally. CLSA datasets generate diverse knowledge products, including methodological papers, training materials, policy‑relevant analyses, and contributions to national health evidence, that play a critical role in improving the health and quality of life of Canadians as they age.

The CLSA’s endorsement of DORA underscores the importance of recognizing and valuing this full spectrum of research products, whose breadth and diversity necessitate transparent and context‑sensitive assessment practices. The CLSA will continue supporting investigators, trainees, and knowledge users in producing and communicating research findings that advance understanding of aging in Canada. Through this endorsement, the CLSA joins a global community commited to advancing meaningful and responsible approaches to research assessment.
