CLSA Webinar Series 2017-2018

The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA)’s webinar series covering a broad range of topics related to the study of health and aging will resume this fall with a focus on CLSA researchers’ findings.

The first webinar of the 2017-18 series, titled ‘The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging: A National Platform and Infrastructure for Researchers and Trainees,’ will be presented at 12 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, September 26.

Dr. Lauren Griffith, an associate professor in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McMaster and a CLSA associate scientific director, will talk about the CLSA platform design and data collection process, describe the available data, and explain the data access application process for researchers, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The presentation is jointly organized with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CHIR) and will include an introduction by Yves Joanette, scientific director of the CIHR.

The 2017-18 CLSA webinar series runs monthly from September to June. Fall presentations include:

  • September 26, 2017: The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging: A National Platform and Infrastructure for Researchers and Trainees, presented by Dr. Lauren Griffith
  • October 2017: Arthritis in Aging Canadians: Prevalence and Impact in the Population, presented by Dr. Elizabeth Badley November 2017: Health Inequities Examined at the Neighbourhood Level, presented by Dr. Frank J van Lenthe
  • December 2017: The Prevalence of Visual Impairment, its Risk Factors, and its Consequences in Canada, presented by Dr. Ellen Freeman
  • January 2018: The Development of Normative Data and Comparison Standards for the Cognition Measures Employed in CLSA, presented by Dr. Holly Tuokko

CLSA webinars are broadcast using WebEx. Attendees will have the option to connect via computers or mobile devices. Instructions on how to use this application will be sent to attendees by email.
