As CLSA Comprehensive Coordinator, Lorraine Moss is responsible for implementing and coordinating the activities of 11 Data Collection Sites across the country. Her position involves developing standard operating procedures, tracking sites progress, providing ongoing training and support to the local teams. An employee of McMaster for more than 20 years, Lorraine has coordinated research in the areas of pediatric nutrition and infectious disease. She has been involved in studies that focused on infant nutrition, nursing-home-acquired pneumonia and vaccinating healthy Hutterite children to stop the spread of influenza.  Lorraine holds an Hon. B.Sc. in Nutritional Science from the University of Guelph.

Marie-Eve joined the CLSA team in July 2010. As Translations Coordinator, her role in the CLSA is to coordinate the translation process of all CLSA documents. She completed a B.Sc. in Microbiology and Immunology in 2007 and then pursued graduate studies in translation to become a medical translator. She has experience as a freelance translator for studies in epidemiology and in rheumatology.

Julianna is the primary contact for the Research Ethics Boards, 11 of which oversee the CLSA in a collaborative process. Julianna manages the ethics amendment submissions, and provides support to the Data Collection Sites in obtaining their annual ethics renewals. She is a involved in the ongoing development of the CLSA’s Quality Management System, and provides support in the development of CLSA procedures, training, and documentation. She also fills the role of CLSA Documentalist, managing the organization and version control of study documents, primarily the CLSA standard operating procedures, guidance and training manuals, and participant materials.  Julianna holds a Hon. B.SocSci from McMaster University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario.

Giulia Scime was hired as the Project Manager for the CLSA-Weston Healthy Brains, Healthy Aging Initiative in January 2022. Giulia holds a Master’s degree in Health Promotion and Human Behaviour from the University of Alberta and a Kinesiology degree from McMaster University. With almost 10 years of experience with the CLSA, as the Research Coordinator and Data Collection Site Manager, Giulia has a proven background in health-related research operations, liaising/engaging with various stakeholders, and overall strategic operational planning and implementation. Giulia’s connections, relationships and knowledge of CLSA data and platforms, will be integral to the success of the CLSA-Weston Healthy Brains, Healthy Aging initiative. Her relationship with the CLSA National Coordinating Centre (NCC) and Biobank and Biorepository (BBC), as well as with the other Data Collections Sites across Canada, results in a successful collaboration as the Project Manager for the CLSA-Weston Healthy Brains, Healthy Aging Initiative.  

Giulia’s role also involves the collaboration among experts, advisory committees, and working groups. She ensures that milestones and targets will be met for the success of the CLSA-Weston Healthy Brains, Healthy Aging Initiative.

As CLSA biorepository coordinator, Chetna Naik is the primary lead of the biorepository as well as coordinating the Biospecimen Collection and Processing Laboratory for 11 Data Collection Sites across the country. Her job involves developing standard operating procedures and providing ongoing training and support to the biorepository as well as well as the Data Collation Sites Laboratory. Chetna joined the CLSA team in July 2012. She completed a B.Sc. in Microbiology and has also completed Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) training.

Sean Hurley

Sean has been a System Administrator for the past eleven years on top of a previous seven years as a systems integrator, and self-employed consultant. Sean is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of servers and network infrastructure for the CLSA. A graduate of Fanshawe College, he is committed to continuing education and has completed courses on scripting, security, and project management.

Dwain is an IT specialist that is responsible for supporting, configuring and testing the CLSA's data collection and dissemination software.  He is also active in the evaluation and testing of the CLSA's evolving technology infrastructure.  He completed his degree in computer science at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and has several years of experience in information technology, specializing in quality assurance and software development.  He joined the CLSA team in July 2012.

Val provides technical support for the CLSA National Coordinating Centre (NCC) and the four Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) centres across Canada. He is responsible for assisting with CLSA systems testing, database reporting, programming and other computing-related tasks. Val joined the CLSA in April 2010. He graduated from Mohawk College with a diploma in software engineering and completed his Bachelor of Technology at McMaster University.

Christina is a Developer that is responsible for supporting, configuring, and testing the CLSA’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The LabWare LIMS is used by the Biorepository and Bioanalysis Centre (BBC) to collect and maintain all the data associated with the biological samples collected over the course of the study. It is also used by our testing laboratories to track our samples before testing. Christina has been working with a LabWare LIMS since 2007 and started at the CLSA in December 2013. She holds a B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo.

As the manager of software and systems architecture, Patrick leads the development, maintenance and support of the technology infrastructure powering the CLSA. He works closely with the scientific management and operations teams to provide all software that is used to drive the study. Patrick has over 20 years of software engineering experience with a focus on academic research environments. Prior to joining the CLSA he consulted on technical matters in the fields of radiology, theoretical astrophysics, digital humanities and epidemiology. Patrick holds a Ph.D. in Medical Physics from McMaster University.

Colin Hulks joined the CLSA team in December 2021 as the Information Technology Manager. Colin leads the IT team which provides daily operational maintenance and support for the technology infrastructure and ensures the technological needs of the CLSA are met.  He holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Waterloo and studied Business Administration at Wilfred Laurier University.  Colin is a skilled IT Manager with over 25 years of IT experience in Public Health, International Banking and Provincial Government. Prior to joining the CLSA, Colin served as Manager, IT, at the Brant County Health Unit.

Support Staff

The CLSA's support staff provides administrative support for the CLSA, managing documents, organizing participant information and ensuring efficient communication occurs with the CLSA and with key partners.

Roxanne Cheeseman has been with the CLSA since 2001. She is a research/administrative coordinator at McMaster University. With over 40 years of experience as an administrator and 20 years in the research field, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role. As the main CLSA support, she fulfils a key role in ensuring timely, accurate and professional communication occurs within the CLSA and with all key partners. She is responsible for the Administrative team and for all agreements, contracts and other legal documents for the CLSA. Her team is responsible for all administrative aspects of the CLSA including finances.

Sharon Langs joined the CLSA in April 2010. As part of the administrative team supporting the National Coordinating Centre (NCC), Sharon coordinates the data and sample access application process and maintains the various study questionnaires.
