Joanne has a Masters degree in Medical Anthropology from the University of Saskatchewan and for the past 20 years has worked in population health and health services research and in several management roles in government. At the University of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Services Utilization and Research Commission (now the Health Quality Council) Joanne contributed to or led research on the epidemiology of injuries and health status; the non-acute use of hospital beds and understanding the barriers to community care; the impact of the closure of 50 small rural hospitals in Saskatchewan; physician clinical practice guideline uptake; and the factors influencing job satisfaction, retention and recruitment in health care. As a Director in the Health Ministry in Saskatchewan, Joanne was involved in the implementation of the health system reorganization in the early 2000’s and she led the work on regional accountability performance indicators and reporting. Most recently, with the Local Health Integration Networks in Ontario, Joanne led a collaborative process that engaged governments, health sector provider organizations, and health service providers in the development and implementation of a performance framework and measures to support accountability for the community health sector. In addition to managing the day to day operations at the National Coordinating centre, and overseeing the implementation of the CLSA data collection sites across Canada, Joanne will work closely with the Principal and local investigators, advisory groups, scientists and public partners across Canada to implement the CLSA protocol and build partnerships to support the ongoing success of the CLSA.
