CLSA Policies
Sample and Data Access Policies:
Over the course of the CLSA a rich resource of data and samples collected from participants will be assembled. All participants in the CLSA will have provided signed informed consent that includes the stipulation that the data and samples collected from them will be obtained adhering to strict security and confidentiality standards. In addition, they will also understand that access to the data and samples collected from them will be made available to researchers under a set of conditions that will assure that the data and samples will be used in accordance with the CLSA consent and with particular attention to security and confidentiality of the data.
Data access in large scale studies is complex and mechanisms to assure the security and confidentiality of the data and procedures to provide access to researchers must be transparent and fair. For this reason the CLSA has developed principles and guidelines for the access to, and the use of, the CLSA data and samples and these are described in this document. The principles and guidelines will be applied by the CLSA Data and Sample Access Committee (I-DSAC) who will be the group charged with the responsibility of reviewing requests for data and/or sample access.
The sample and data access policy has been developed and is currently under review by the International Oversight Committee, Ethical Legal and Social Issues Committee and CIHR. This policy will be posted soon.
Intellectual Property (IP) Policy:
The IP policy sets forth the rules applying to ownership, negotiation and commercialization of intellectual property developed in the context of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). The primary objective of the policy is to manage intellectual property arising from CLSA projects in a balanced manner among the various involved stakeholders.
The IP policy has been developed and is currently under review. This policy will be posted soon
